According to reliable sources, Shreks Quests sold over 28,262,000 copies worldwide. Pretty impressive stuff!

Shreks Quests was a partwork publication designed and produced by John Brown Media. Having worked at JB on other Shrek related publications, I was asked to maintain the magazine from issues 8 through to 24 on a regular monthly basis.

Working remotely from my home office, I was in regular contact with the editorial team who would supply the raw editorial content along with rough positionals of the sort of graphics that the articles required. My responsibilities lay in the styling up of the copy, putting together the layouts in InDesign and creating and retouching any images required in Photoshop and Illustrator.

I really can’t stress enough how much fun this project was to work on. Not only were the editorial team incredibly imaginative with the concepts they would dream up on a per issue basis, but having access to heaps of Dreamworks digital material was a dream.

If the editor needed an image of a character performing a particular task, and there wasn’t an image already available, then I was able to trawl the Shrek archives and pull off limbs and facial expressions to suit. Of course they had to be stuck together in Photoshop, but that was the fun part!

Unfortunately for me, I recently discovered that the majority of my Shrek backups have corrupted, so the gallery below is a little on the “light” side. That said, I’m sure I have printed copies of most of the issues somewhere if anyone ever wanted to see them.
